as far as my understanding goes for each future long there is short. so whether its long or short is analyst's story. all what u hear in cnbc long carry forward short carryforward is bs. one prominent analyst whom i admire, sushil kedia, said it.i hope i understood it correctly. other experts need to comment.

This is how OI is calculated.
BUY selL OI
PERSON A 1 1
PERSON B 4 4+1=5
PERSON A 1 5-1=4
PERSON C 4 4+4=8

Hi..All,
I have put up a table showing "Contracts" initiated by A,B,C,D,E,F,G traders from 9.01 AM onwards.
See the total change in O.I as well as individual positions..They will tally all the time.
This should help you understand it better.

This is because C sells 4 contracts and they stay open till the time he squares it off.
Any new contract that stays open for a particular trader will be added to open interest, whether it is buy or sell.

When trader A exits his trade by squaring off, the open interest becomes 4. When Trader C sells 4 contracts (short position initiation) then the total open interest becomes 4+4=8

Tata Motors has broken the weekly channel @ 752. Temporary support could be in the region of 685 to 705.
If you see the 5 day intra chart, Nifty has been finding support at 5190-5210 zone. For the day, intra is quite OS. Hence a small trade in a small ranging market.
Do not take such SL literally..Give it a few points leeway during such sideways trading market.
