With no fresh challenges in sight, with no more mountains to scale, Williams eventually had a nervous breakdown. This, in fact, proved good for him. He was in the valley once again. He could see new mountain slopes, which beckoned and challenged him to climb again. He started his journey again and produced his most famous work, A Streetcar Named Desire.
If the past successes are not quickly digested, the psyche begins to disfigure. It is imperative, therefore, to quickly digest the power one achieves. There are several ways of doing it. First every achievement should be viewed as a milestone, not as a mountain peak. If past glories begin to weigh heavier than your future dreams, take it as a warning that decay is setting in. Enjoy the adulation, respect and comfort that success brings, but don't become complacent. Remember, what made these pleasures possible and sustained the efforts that led you till this point, as the thrill of life lies in this journey; destinations are mere parking spaces to stretch your limbs and refuel. Action is life, lassitude is death. So when you reach one landmark, relax and relish the experience, but do not abandon the effort required to travel further. Set the bar higher.
Or look at people whose achievements are bigger than yours. Seeing your place in the larger scheme of things also helps change one's perspective as this story illustrates.
Socrates was sitting in his school with several of his students, when an extremely rich and famous man of Athens entered the hall to meet him. Socrates didn't notice his arrival and continued his discussions with his students. The man felt affronted but still decided to wait a while. But with every passing minute, his anger mounted. After about half an hour of waiting, he suddenly shouted at Socrates, "You don't know who I am?"
Another tip for digesting power is to develop your feminine polarity. Man is aggressive by nature; woman is compassionate. It is said, God completed the creation of world in six days, yet every subsequent day, he kept refining his creations until he created man. Even then he was not satisfied. So he took a bone from man’s rib and created a woman – a more refined version of man. In fact, a man becomes complete and capable of great achievements only when he recognizes his own feminine polarity – his warm, giving and kind self.
For instance, Amitabh Bachchan, the Indian film superstar, gets up early in the morning at 6 and runs a packed schedule till late in the night. Even after such a hectic daily schedule, before going to bed, he tends to his old bed-ridden mother, sits by her side and tells her all that transpired during the day.
Understanding the principles of Tao, the hidden order that governs the universe, is the key to handling power. The principle of cosmic justice is based on the maxim that a person reaps what he sows. The doctrine of Karma and belief in divine retribution are different expressions of a common principle that the world is governed by the principle of justice. Justice (Balance) is inherent in the fabric of cosmos.
Thus, when giddy with power we lose touch with our inner rhythm, or the Tao, and behave recklessly or cruelly, retribution does come. It perhaps does not come from some God sitting in heavens, but from within us when, due to our physical and mental imbalance, we are no longer available to our possibilities.
The recognition of the role of luck in our achievements also helps keep humility alive in us. It is indeed not just one’s prowess, but also providence that leads him to a position of power. This realization subdues the ego.
Lastly, we need to learn to love our people and be kind to them. Love is an enzyme that digests power, and compassion is the best antidote against power’s corrupting influence.

thank you sir for another gem.
Hi Friends,
For the first time in the 63 year history of our nation, the citizens have the opportunity to directly participate in the making of a law that will have significant and direct impact on their lives and the life of the nation. The country is today ridden by corruption. Whether it be routine transactions that involve the government or services and amenities and benefits provided through the public exchequer, the ordinary citizen pays a price daily in terms of harassment, delays, poor quality, absent infrastructure and in-equal access. What we need is an effective and independent institutional mechanism for tackling the malaise of corruption in this country. That institution is the Jan Lokpal.
The drafting of the Jan Lokpal bill, which is to be finalized by June 30th, 2011, is underway. You can play your part in this historic moment by giving us your invaluable comments/suggestions about the different provisions in the draft of the Jan Lokpal bill which will make it the effective, accountable and independent anti-corruption body that India needs right now. Otherwise, it will remain a law which exists only on paper and has no impact on the ground.

Please support the cause in the way u can.Join the movement,do Twittering,Blogging ,email, sms etc.

Please spend some time reading through Aarvee's comments. Reflect on it.
This "time" you spend to voice your concerns and feed your inputs will not only benefit you but generations to come.
Enacting a law will not change everything but it helps tremendously in the hands of well meaning men & women.
This awareness - spread it all around. And make that change taking hold of you - do not stop with you. Inspire your near ones to embrace this culture. Be intolerant towards such malaises that have affected our society for long. And always express your views/ concerns in the most civil way possible. Each has a right to his opinion. Do not judge them just because they don't concur with you.
Show patience with fortitude. Stand firm with courage and conviction.
Spend the remaining weekends to spread this awareness and help create a beautiful world for the future generations.
Done Sir.
Thank you Ilango Sir.
Thank you RV Sir.
One thing constantly gnawing my mind is that all these corrupt people, even after a period of jail term, come back and repeat the very same acts, perhaps, more vigorously. To rectify this, I feel, only way is to defranchise them. Proven guilty people should not have citizenship rights in this country. Kindly think over this aspect. If you are convinced please write about it in your blog. And persuade your followers to act accordingly.
With kind regards,
LV

government is corrupt and unfortunately corruption is a way of life in this country now. not only government is corrupt but it is highly insensitive as is clear from the brutalities it has committed on the peaceful masses at ramlila maidan.
having said this, i must say that a true yogi does not abscond in a cowardly manner as baba ramdev [whom i otherwise admire and he has done a good job of awakening people] ran for his life wearing women's clothes. he was expected to boldly face the police and be with his supporters rather than run away.
baba ramdev and anna hazare must keep the pressure on the government and they have been doing a good job so far. however they have to do it within the framework of democratic infrastructure and in a reasonable manner. also baba ji has to behave more responsibly. he said pm and cj be out of the purview of the lokpal bill. he should have consulted anna ji.
baba says anna was given a platform by him. anna says baba is not mature to lead a social movement. it will be unfortunate if their individual egos adversely affect this great movement against corruption.
finally here the fight is not against britishers but against a government elected by people of india. this also has to be kept in mind. all these elected representatives are our own, we chose them to govern the country. if they are failing, let us change them with a good set of honest people. which can be done by using our votes judicially as has been done by the people of tamilnadu. vote this bunch of corrupt people out next time.
baba ramdev and anna hazare should back honest people and then those honest parliamentarians and government would be under pressure to bring the desired change in mother india.
Nice one
A true gem :) Thanks!
Here's something that I had read a few years ago. It associates a person in being in any of these 38 steps. Am listing this in 2 separate posts as I am getting an error message of not being able to post more than 4096 characters.
----------------
1. We accumulate information - buying books, going to seminars and researching.
2. We begin to trade with our 'new' knowledge.
3. We consistently 'donate' and then realize we may need more knowledge or information.
4. We accumulate more information.
5. We switch the commodities we are currently following.
6. We go back into the market and trade with our 'updated' knowledge.
7. We get 'beat up' again and begin to lose some of our confidence. Fear starts setting in.
8. We start to listen to 'outside news' and to other traders.
9. We go back into the market and continue to 'donate'.
10. We switch commodities again.
11. We search for more information.
12. We go back into the market and start to see a little progress.
13. We get 'over-confident' and the market humbles us.
14. We start to understand that trading successfully is going to take more time and more knowledge than we anticipated.
MOST PEOPLE WILL GIVE UP AT THIS POINT,
AS THEY REALISE WORK IS INVOLVED.
15. We get serious and start concentrating on learning a 'real' methodology.
16. We trade our methodology with some success, but realise that something is missing.
17. We begin to understand the need for having rules to apply our methodology.
18. We take a sabbatical from trading to develop and research our trading rules.
19. We start trading again, this time with rules and find some success, but over all we still hesitate when it comes time to execute.
20. We add, subtract and modify rules as we see a need to be more proficient with our rules.
21. We feel we are very close to crossing that threshold of successful trading.
22. We start to take responsibility for our trading results as we understand that our success is in us, not the methodology.
23. We continue to trade and become more proficient with our methodology and our rules.
24. As we trade we still have a tendency to violate our rules and our results are still erratic.
25. We know we are close.
26. We go back and research our rules.
27. We build the confidence in our rules and go back into the market and trade.
28. Our trading results are getting better, but we are still hesitating in executing our rules.
29. We now see the importance of following our rules as we see the results of our trades when we don't follow the rules.
30. We begin to see that our lack of success is within us (a lack of discipline in following the rules because of some kind of fear) and we begin to work on knowing ourselves better.
31. We continue to trade and the market teaches us more and more about ourselves.
32. We master our methodology and our trading rules.
33. We begin to consistently make money.
34. We get a little over-confident and the market humbles us.
35. We continue to learn our lessons.
36. We stop thinking and allow our rules to trade for us (trading becomes boring, but successful) and our trading account continues to grow as we increase our contract size.
37. We are making more money than we ever dreamed possible.
38. We go on with our lives and accomplish many of the goals we had always dreamed of.
Most traders will identify with this list and should be able to place themselves within these steps. Keep in mind that very few people progress through these steps in an orderly fashion.
Developing your trading skills is an iterative process. For example, you may reach Step 13., find that although you were making money, your basic premise for trading was flawed (you might
have been benefiting from the bull market, rather than your own trading prowess and then have been rudely awakened when the market entered a bear phase) and you may drop back to
Step 4. and start 'climbing' the steps again. Having the proper mindset, attitude and psychological makeup becomes increasingly important as you progress through the steps. The focus of the earlier steps is on external issues, i.e. developing proficiency in the mechanics of trading while the focus of the latter steps (particularly from Step 30, on) is on internal issues, i.e. improving ourselves mentally and psychologically, maturing as a trader.
What a read ! Thank you Ilango Sir
