Nifty, trending down, had a good "downday" breaking the "5097".

Congrats to Nilesh Despande for winning the "Expiry contest".
Your ATR strategy is new to me.
I have heard a lot about ATR but couldn't get it in my excel sheet.
I would, henceforth, take some interest in this old study which is new to me.
Thank you, Jiignesh.

Congrats Nilesh,

Does ATR work on all days ?

ATR works on most days, but not on all days.

My formula is simple.

PC-ATR*.80 to PC-ATR*0.50 Buy Zone

PC+ATR*0.50 to PC+ATR*0.80 Sell Zone

where PC is previous day's close.

Bears get weak near PC-ATR*0.50 to PC-ATR*0.75, but get charged up below PC-ATR*0.80 for a target of DH-1.5*ATR

Bulls get weak near PC+ATR*0.50 to PC+ATR*0.75, but get charged up above PC+ATR*0.80 for a target of DL+1.5ATR

where DH & DL are current days High & Low respectively.

Gives out better results when used with ADX for determining whether this is a trending or a sideways market.

Hope this helps.

Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit

@Nilesh Deshpande

Pls let us know how many days ATR do you use?

It looks you are using 20 days ATR. Is it 14 days better or 20 days - what is your experience?

I have always insisted why day trader lose

n XL file attached with last 100 days data
XL experts can insert Mr. Nilesh formula in it

If left out it will never give you chance again

cos ur

SL will be too far
beauty of system is our JNSAR is
always away from ATR

Markets are 4ever.

Today somebody was asking SL for scrips

Why intraday trade land with SL?
cos SL should be always more than ATR

if you are scalper ur SL will be different,
if you are Intraday trader ur SL will be differet
If you are Swing trader ur SL will be small

It depends how you trade

but ideal SL is ATR

If one want to learn He/She has to be Humble

If you have ego - mkt is not 4 u

What is ATR?

Thanks a lot to all blog mates. I am also a student yet. However, I have a slight edge in data mining owing to my profession.

Coming to explaining the formula as requested by some people, here it is.

Today Nifty closed at 5043 with the ATR at 61.

So for tomorrow, the Buy zone will be 5000 to 5015 roughly with a SL at 4992. Below 4992 the target will be the DH of tomorrow minus 91 points.

Similarly, the Sell zone will be roughly from 5074 to 5089 with a SL at 5093. Above 5093, the target will be 91 points above tomorrows day low when the Nifty crosses 5093.

If the Nifty does not touch 5015 or 5074, it will clearly state that the Nifty range wants to contract now, and then the trade will become that much more unpredictable and therefore that much more risky.

Hope this helps to understand my theory better.

forget 5074, 5089, 5100, one thing to remember and keep in mind that master said if closes above 5175 by 31st, then chances of upmove or downward to continue.

gkm223 said...

my thinking atleast 5205 gap to be filled, chances of 5363 gap filling is also there.
